Volunteers at Lenox Hill Neighborhood House use their unique skills, talents and experiences to enrich our programs for thousands in need. We offer an extensive array of meaningful and rewarding volunteer positions for everyone from teens to older adults. Opportunities to volunteer are available weekdays, evenings and weekends. In addition to our printed guidebook, a free digital version can be used on visitors’ own personal smart devices. We are limiting capacity and utilizing timed tickets to allow for greater social distancing.
City Center
We provide this support to more than 700 men and women each year who are homeless, formerly homeless or threatened with eviction and life on the streets. Our programs include an 80-bed Women’s Mental Health Shelter at the Park Avenue Armory, our Casa Mutua supportive housing residence located in East Harlem and our Homelessness Prevention Program. The Visual and Performing Arts Department integrates arts instruction including visual art, creative movement, music and drama and performance into most of the Neighborhood House's programs. The Teaching Kitchen is a training and technical assistance program to help nonprofit organizations to convert their food services to a farm-to-institution model by serving more fresh, healthy and local food—without raising costs.

Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, founded in 1894 as a free kindergarten for immigrant children by alumnae of Normal College (later Hunter College), is one of the oldest settlement houses in the nation. The Center offers members a packed schedule of at least 20 daily activities. Current offerings include fitness classes, including swimming in the Neighborhood House pool; language classes; arts, crafts and culture classes; games; computer classes and additional technology offerings; and several classes taught in Chinese for our Chinese-language speaking community. Each month, we organize a variety of cultural and shopping trips around the five boroughs from both the Center on East 70th Street and our Saint Peter’s location on East 54th Street.
